Early Learning Guidelines map development birth-5
The New York State Early Learning Guidelines are intended for all early childhood professionals. The document is a helpful resource to refer to when it comes to how children learn and develop—and includes milestones for different ages, side-by-side.
For example, in the category of “Interactions with Adults,” the guidelines show that a child aged birth to 18 months will quiet when comforted by an adult; an 18 to 36-month-old demonstrates attachment to adults by seeking them out when tired or needing comfort; and at 36 to 60 months, a child will approach adults for help—and offer adults help, too.
The downloadable document is available in both English and Spanish.
