Important information regarding Winter Recess

Please review the following important announcements regarding the Winter Recess.

February 22 return to in-person work and instruction

Following the Winter Recess, Nassau BOCES will resume in-person work and instruction on Monday, February 22. If new guidance from the Governor or the New York State Health Department alters these plans, we will notify you as quickly as possible.

Screenings – February 19 and 20

Staff and students are asked to participate in Nassau BOCES’ screening process on February 19 and 20. On these dates, you will receive the same screening questions as you usually do. They will come later in the day. This is important information that will alert us to any issues that we might have running programs in-person the week of February 22.

Alert supervisors immediately

Please alert and your supervisor immediately via email if you test positive for COVID-19 or if you must quarantine. Please do not wait until the end of the break to share this information. This will provide our programs with more time to make contingency plans.

No paid sick leave for quarantine after voluntary travel

Staff are reminded that New York State COVID sick leave is not available to those who voluntarily travel to restricted locations. Further, Nassau BOCES will not permit the use of accrued sick leave for purposes of quarantining after travel. Staff whose positions do not allow them to perform their work remotely will need to take leave without pay for this type of quarantine. Personal or vacation days may be used for quarantine absence if the time is approved in advance by the employee’s supervisor. This will be Nassau BOCES’ approach throughout the remainder of the pandemic unless there is a change at the state or federal level.
