Anthony Aiello, Center for Community Adjustment’s (CCA) new Assistant Principal, is a highly motivated, creative and enthusiastic educator who is always willing to learn and collaborate. Having served as both a classroom teacher and administrator, Dr. Aiello will bring his formidable skills to bear for the CCA and its special needs students.
Dr. Aiello began his educational career as a history teacher in the alternative night school programs in both the Connetquot CHSD and the Rocky Point UFSD. He went on to teach history in the Central Islip UFSD summer school program, and from there joined the Hauppauge UFSD, where he has served nearly 15 years as a special education and general education teacher. Recently, he forayed into administration by interning as a school building and school district leader.
Last school year, Dr. Aiello took on an administrative role as the coordinator of Hauppauge High School’s Personal Academic Support Services (PASS), an academic intervention program designed for students whose needs are too intensive to be met in a general education setting. Dr. Aiello helped to redesign PASS, working with district and building administrators to develop curriculum, as well as action plans and guidelines, geared toward improving student performance and helping students to get back on track for graduation.
“I am devoted to maximizing each student’s opportunities for success,” Dr. Aiello said of his vision for the CCA. “Research has shown that building strong relationships between students and their educators dramatically enhances a student’s level of motivation and promotes learning. I personally believe that instruction is most meaningful when it is relevant to the students’ lives, needs and interests. I therefore promote a student-centered learning approach that encourages students to explore and discover information on their own.”
Dr. Aiello holds a doctorate in education from St. John’s University, a master’s degree and certification in advanced leadership from Stony Brook University, and a bachelor’s degree in history from St. Joseph’s College. He also holds certification from New York State in secondary social studies education, teaching students with disabilities, and school leadership. He is an active member of the Long Island Council for the Social Studies, the Guilder-Lehman Institute, and the Future Leaders Academy.
