Nassau BOCES opens the doors to its Joseph M. Barry Career and Technical Education Center to prospective students and their families
Nassau BOCES Barry Tech, a career and technical education high school for students with a passion for a hands-on career is holding an Open House on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. – noon. From noon–2 p.m. an Open House for Hofstra Summer Camps at Barry Tech will also take place.
Barry Tech is now accepting applications for the 2018-19 school year. Prospective students from Nassau County are invited to meet Administration, tour the campus at 1196 Prospect Avenue in Westbury, meet with expert faculty and staff, and learn about classes focused on their specific interests in more than 40 different career fields ranging from Automotive Technology to Cosmetology and Gaming to Fashion Design Technology.
Attendees can visit classrooms and shops that are designed to simulate real world settings. Between noon-2 p.m., interested students can also learn about Barry Tech’s Summer Tech program, offered through a partnership with Hofstra Summer Camps. There are a number of exciting offerings including Aviation, Culinary Arts, and Veterinary Science, to name a few.
Barry Tech courses provide both theory and practical application. Barry Tech teachers are experienced in both subject matter and the world of work. They are eager to share their skills and experiences, and they work hard to help students succeed.
“Students who attend Barry Tech benefit from hands-on training with instruction from teachers with experience from working in their respective fields,” says Barry Tech Principal Pete Dalton. “Our students can also participate in work-based learning and service learning projects that provide a real feel for the careers they are interested in pursuing.”
