Nassau BOCES Barry Tech appoints professional pastry chef alum to faculty
Chef Leonard Messina has been appointed Culinary Instructor at Nassau BOCES Barry Tech.
Professional pastry chef Leonard Messina has joined the faculty of Nassau BOCES Barry Tech career and technical education high school. Chef Messina, who is a successful graduate of Barry Tech, will share his considerable skill and experience with the next generation of culinary professionals.
With 20 years of experience as a pastry chef in the highly competitive New York City restaurant industry, and seven years educational experience as an instructor at the Culinary Academy of Long Island, Chef Messina welcomes the opportunity to return to the classroom at Barry Tech.
A celebrated professional in education as well as the culinary arts, he has been named Chef Educator of the Year and Pastry Chef of the Year. He serves as Director of the Guild of Baking and Pastry Arts, and is an active member of The American Culinary Federation and The Chef De Cuisine in New York City. He holds a degree in hotel and restaurant management from New York City Technical College, as well as certification as an Executive Pastry Chef.
“Many years ago, Barry Tech ignited my culinary career,” Chef Messina said. “I am humbled to be returning as a culinary instructor and look forward to sharing my knowledge.” He is also eager to be fulfilling his personal mission, which is as simple as it is profound: “Always give back and never forget where you came from.”
