Business Partners Help Students with On-The-Job Training
Alison Varley's Police Science and Criminal Justice students are getting real-world experience doing a security internship at Barry Tech’s Joe's Corner Store. Shout out to all our local business partners who help our students get on-the-job training through the efforts of our Barry Tech Work-Based Learning Coordinators, Randi O'Moore and Lauren Engels. Real world experience is just one of the keys to student success. These business partners also help to be sure our instruction meets current industry practice. Walter Meehan's Power Sports & Small Engine Repair student Saichethan Gudipati (Westbury UFSD), is interning at Chief Equipment in Hicksville. Sai’s mentor, Bill, is teaching Sai how to work on all types of power equipment. It's a great opportunity since they have one of the largest selections of John Deere equipment and are one of the largest suppliers of outdoor power equipment and parts to NYC, Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Nicholas Sauer, Power Sports & Small Engine Repair student (Hewlett UFSD) works at Bay Park Marine Service in Oceanside. He’s learning from the best, owner Butch Wegener, and other seasoned technicians on many types of marine equipment and lifts. Nicholas was doing so well that Bay Park Marine Service has hired him as a part time employee. Nicholas uses what he learned in class from Teacher Walter Meehan every day.
