Medical Assisting students from Nassau BOCES Barry Tech Career And Technical Education High School collected a total of 158pints of blood during their most recent blood drive. These vital donations, gathered on behalf of the New York Blood Center, will help save close to 500 lives. Additional drives will be held throughout the school year.

Under the guidance of instructors Karen McLean and Dr. Francesco Marcello, Barry Tech students spearheaded the event, promoting awareness, recruiting volunteers, and ensuring that the blood donation experience went as smoothly as possible. Barry Tech staff and administration did their part as well, working together to coordinate and supervise the drive.

“Our students were happy to participate,” said Ms. McLean. “They helped facilitate the drive, collected donor permission slips and helped donors to navigate the process. They all tell me that it gave them a good feeling to work this event.”

“The blood drive is a major undertaking, and we are extremely grateful to all those who helped to support it,” said Barry Tech Associate Principal Dr. William Poll. “These individuals not only helped their community, but they also helped to save lives.”
