Nassau BOCES Barry Tech held its annual College Fair recently, with representatives from 60 colleges in attendance, including 21 SUNY, CUNY and community colleges, and 39 private colleges.

A Career Fair was also added to the event this year, where students could visit with more than 20 industry partners representing the Automotive, Culinary, Medical, Military, as well as New York State troopers and the Nassau Police Department, the MTA, Stew Leonard’s and PSE&G. This provided an opportunity for students to explore employment and higher education opportunities.

“The College Fair gives our students an opportunity to visit many schools all under one roof,” said Madeline Falino, school counselor and fair coordinator. “It brings admissions officers from various colleges and universities to Barry Tech, so our students can meet and greet, shake hands with representatives and get answers to their questions. This event allows students to find out more about colleges that interest them, discover new colleges, and connect with reps from around the country.”

“The students that came by were very interested, they had a lot of great questions,” said Cobelskill SUNY Admissions Counselor Sarah Alaimo. “I love meeting with them, we had a lot of fun!”

Student Aaliyah Martinez, of the Oceanside UFSD, said that she stopped at many tables to see what they had to offer. “A lot of it was helpful,” she said. “It’s good to know what my choices are - and there are a lot.”

Falino added that the event also prepares students to make a great first impression on the admissions officer who may be evaluating their college application and to successfully navigate the fair.
