Sabrina Hyland, a graduate of the cosmetology program at Nassau BOCES GC Tech, returns to her alma mater to share her professional expertise.
Ms. Hyland has more than 10 years of industry experience, having owned and managed her own hair salon, and worked as a professional stylist, master colorist, bridal specialist and extension professional. She began sharing her experience with Nassau BOCES cosmetology students in 2012 when she served as an adult educator and teaching assistant in the Adult Education program. From there, she joined the faculty of GC Tech as a teaching assistant, before being brought on as a full member of the faculty this year.
Ms. Hyland is a licensed cosmetologist with New York State. She completed the
Communication Quantitative Skills Test (CQST) Teaching Assistant Skills Assessment, as well as educational training workshops in school violence intervention and prevention, child abuse identification, and the Dignity For All Students Act. She holds an associate’s degree from Nassau Community College and is continuing her studies at Old Westbury College.
“I want my students to not only be fully prepared for the state exam,” Ms. Hyland says, “but to have developed the foundation to grow into successful hairdressers and people. When students from our program graduate, they are earning more than a diploma; they are gaining the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in their careers and in the real world.”
