Retired NYPD Detective appointed to GC Tech faculty

Patrick DeCanio, retired New York Police Department Second Grade Detective, brings nearly 30 years of law enforcement training and teaching experience to the faculty of Nassau BOCES GC Tech.

Detective DeCanio has earned more than 30 certifications during the course of his distinguished career. Not only is he certified as a master instructor by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, he has also been certified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Army, and the Suffolk County Police Department. He holds certification in a wide spectrum of law enforcement fields from the NYPD.  

Detective DeCanio is a decorated officer with multiple citations and commendations. A five-time recipient of the Medal for Excellent Police Duty, he has also earned the Theodore Roosevelt Police Award and the Hurricane Katrina Medal. In addition to his 28 years with the NYPD, Detective DeCanio has field experience with the Northeast Counter-Drug Training Center, the Town of Islip Department of Safety, and as a volunteer for the Community Ambulance Company, as well as more than 10 years in the private sector. He is a graduate of the New York City Police Academy.
