GC Tech welcomes auto alum to faculty

Nassau BOCES GC Tech alumnus Robert Mayer has joined his alma mater as an Automotive Technology teacher. A nationally certified automotive expert, Mr. Mayer brings a combination of exceptional training and professional experience to the students of the GC Tech auto program.

Mr. Mayer is a highly qualified automotive technician, skilled in diagnostics and repair. He has significant experience with engines, transmissions, suspensions, and electrical and emissions systems. He has conducted multipoint inspections, oil changes, tire mounting and balancing, and basic maintenance. He has worked for Garden City and Westbury Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge, South Bellmore AutoCare, and Security Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge/SRT of Amityville.

Mr. Mayer holds certifications from The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in suspension and steering, and maintenance and light repair. He is also a New York State certified automotive inspector. He holds an associate’s degree in business administration and an advanced regents diploma with honors and career and technical education endorsement. A graduate of the Automotive Technology Program at Gerald R. Claps Technical and Career Center, he earned Academic Excellence in Automotive Technology, and has placed at the regional and state levels in the Dealer Association Automotive Competition.

“My time at GC Tech shaped me into the professional I am now,” Mr. Mayer said. “It made me a more successful individual.” Of his goals as an educator, he said, “I want to teach my students essential life skills, such as showing up on time, being prepared and staying focused on the task at hand. In the real world, you never know what doors will open for you or how life will turn, so you need to learn to work with what you have.”
