Nassau BOCES honors two educators as technology trailblazers at annual summit

West Side School Media Specialist, Erica Fraiberg, was presented with the Fred Podolski Leadership and Innovation, Most Innovative Use of Technology Award by April E. Poprilo, Nassau BOCES Interim District Superintendent and Western Suffolk BOCES District Superintendent.

Dr. Whittney Smith, Director of Instructional Technology and Assessment, Mineola UFSD, was presented with the Fred Podolski Leadership and Innovation Visionary Award by James WidmerNassau BOCES Deputy Superintendent/Chief Operating Officer.

The awards were given at the 2023 Long Island Technology and Education Summit (LITES) earlier this fall. The commemorative award, honoring trailblazers in educational technology, is conferred in memory of Fred Podolski, longtime Director of the Nassau BOCES Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology.

The annual LITES is hosted by the three Long Island BOCES, in partnership with the New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education (NYSCATE). Each year, educators from across the region gather to discuss the use of technology in our schools to improve instruction and student performance.
