Graciela Carrillo, Nassau BOCES Facilities Services Department Senior Manager, received the 2022 Young Architects Award from The American Institute of Architects. The AIA recognized her commitment and advocacy for emerging professionals, particularly for women and immigrants in the profession. Having emigrated from Columbia, she has drawn on her own experiences to mentor professionals from around the world, imparting advice on licensure, cultural bias, and the immigration process.
She has served on the board of the AIA’s Long Island chapter in a variety of leadership roles and was board president in 2020. Graciela was the chapter’s first Latina president and just the third woman to hold the position in more than 75 years!
