April 2017 Meeting

Future Ready Schools helps district leaders plan and implement personalized, research-based digital learning strategies so all students can achieve their full potential. Future Ready Schools district leadership teams work collaboratively to transform teaching and learning using the power of technology to help drive continuous improvement. Sewanhaka CHSD took the pledge to become Future Ready in the spring of 2016. Their commitment is to “Foster and Lead a Culture of Digital Learning Within Our Schools.” Christopher Nelson, Director of Student Achievement and Instructional Technologies will share some of the work at Future-Ready Sewanhaka and Lia Dossin, Outreach Manager for Future Ready Schools will be sharing more about the program and the FRS Albany Institute.

An increasing number of school Audit reports from the NY State Comptroller’s Office are citing technology-related findings. What specifically are they looking at, and what do you need to have in place for compliance? We’ll begin with an Overview of OSC Network Security Audits by Edu Tek’s Steven Amy and Mario Caligiuri, then hear from colleagues NASTECH Executive Chairperson Daniel Friedman and Paul Lynch on Developing Board Policies and Preparing Your District for OSC Audits. Dan will share relevant Board Policies developed in Hicksville, and Paul will discuss his experiences with the audit process in Lynbrook from both an IT perspective and in his role as the district Business Official.

One way to help ensure your district will hold up under the scrutiny of an IT audit, and more importantly limit your exposure to network attacks, is to undergo a security assessment. John Rovito and John Popolizio of VirtuIT Systems will provide us with an Overview of IT Security Assessments, covering Risk and Security, Vulnerability and Intrusion, and Continuous Protection and Defense, and discuss best practices for each.
