2016 Nassau BOCES Education Partner Award Honoree
Dr. John Gangemi
Founder
Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation
For nearly 40 years, Dr. John Gangemi was a devoted educator at Nassau BOCES, the last six of which he served as Deputy Superintendent. Throughout his career, he contributed to the growth of Nassau BOCES by fostering strong relationships with all departments, and by committing himself to the highest standards in maintaining educational programs for students of all ages and abilities.
In 2007, Dr. Gangemi established the Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation, with the mission of raising funds to enhance educational opportunities for all students in Nassau BOCES schools, services or programs. The Foundation supports initiatives that are beyond the scope of the Nassau BOCES budget, and actively seeks donations, grants and government funds. Today, Dr. Gangemi continues to offer the Foundation the benefit of his leadership, advice and financial resources.
Dr. Gangemi is the Co-Founder of the Staff and Curriculum Development Network, a group comprised of all the BOCES throughout New York State, as well as representatives from various educational organizations, including the State Education Department (SED). He has worked as a liaison with the SED to develop and enhance curriculum and instruction in local school districts.
A past President of the Long Island Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Dr. Gangemi has served as President of the New York State Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, where he voted as a director at the national conference each year. Throughout the years, Dr. Gangemi has not only served as an educational leader, but has also worked hands-on with students as a teacher for Nassau BOCES and an adjunct professor for Dowling College.
"Dr. John Gangemi has had a tremendous impact on all of the school districts throughout Nassau County, as well as on the departments and programs of Nassau BOCES," wrote his award nominator. "His honesty, integrity, humor and commitment to excellence inspire all those around him, and his sincerity and warmth has bridged many a gap between differing and sometimes oppositional viewpoints. Through the years, Dr. Gangemi has worked diligently for the students of Nassau County."
