2018 Nassau BOCES Education Partner Award Honoree
Teresa Scaturro
Executive Assistant and
Board Secretary, Nassau BOCES
Board Member, Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation
Teresa Scaturro’s official title is “executive assistant,” but unofficially she is considered the heart and soul of Nassau BOCES. In the 25 years that she has served the agency, Ms. Scaturro has become an invaluable, indispensable resource with extraordinary skills that she manages exceptionally well. She is the linchpin of the central administrative team and a singular constant at Nassau BOCES.
Ms. Scaturro has earned unconditional trust as the point of contact for the agency and its 56 component districts. She is the “go-to” person for superintendents, boards of education, public officials, educators, parents and students. Her outstanding leadership abilities have induced colleagues, volunteers and community members to seek out her guidance and support.
Ms. Scaturro is as diligently devoted to education outside the agency as well. She has served as a board member and officer in the Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation since its inception. She has helped the Foundation to raise more than $400,000 in grants to give students the tools that they need to accomplish their goals.
A longtime volunteer in the local, regional and statewide Parent Teacher Association, she is devoted to the PTA’s Pick A Reading Partner program. She supports PARP’s belief that “learning to read is the single most important activity in a child’s education.”
“The mission, vision, strategic goals, programs and services of Nassau BOCES are all based on our commitment to help students to reach their potential,” Ms. Scaturro said of the work she’s done for the agency. “I love working with the staff, the board and the superintendents. They’re so dedicated and so caring. We work together on everything. We’re all there for the children.”
“Teresa Scaturro’s impact on education is extraordinary,” wrote her award nominator. “The tremendous value she places on our schools is obvious in the work she does, both as a Nassau BOCES employee and as a volunteer. She is a doer who gets the job done and done well. Her reliability and skill level are immeasurable. She is dedicated, knowledgeable, and one of the kindest people I have ever known.”
