2020 George Farber Outstanding Student Award Honoree
Twilight Alternative High School Program
Bianca entered the Hewlett-Woodmere School District in the eighth grade as an ENL student. In tenth grade, Bianca took Twilight classes to support her day school classes. In eleventh grade she found her passion, social studies, and requested extra classes in U.S. History for her own self-improvement. Her goal is to become a social studies teacher. She volunteers to assist Spanish-speaking students with their Global Studies. With fortitude and hard work, Bianca has earned a high GPA while taking English-speaking Regents level classes. Bianca helped with her siblings at home and to care for her dad, who was ill, while completing her studies during the day and at the Twilight program, always aiming for academic success. Even when her father succumbed to his illness last year, she never let her own personal tragedy affect her academics, determination or temperament. Bianca has volunteered her time to assist our Global 1 teacher with newly enrolled Spanish-speaking students. She assists in the English as a New Language (ENL) classroom during her free periods and lunch. Bianca has assisted many of our new students navigate this foreign environment and helped them adjust. She has become a role model for new ENL students.
