Dr. Robert R. Dillon

District Superintendent
Nassau BOCES

Dr. Dillon is an educational leader with more than 40 years of experience. As District Superintendent for Nassau BOCES, he has steered the agency through a series of major changes and helped to address a number of critical issues facing Nassau County education.

At the outset of the COVID crisis, then Nassau County Executive Laura Curran named Dr. Dillon the county’s educational liaison for the pandemic. In this capacity, he assembled a COVID response team to meet the challenges ahead, collaborated with local government officials to get necessary supplies and equipment, and gathered key personnel to obtain emergency grant funds.

When called upon by the New York State (NYS) Board of Regents to examine the current NYS graduation requirements, Dr. Dillon responded with the Reimagining Readiness initiative, a series of workshops designed to consider possible options for high school curricula and alternative pathways to graduation. In addition to assembling hundreds of educators for the task, he invited a number of critical stakeholders to participate, such as government officials, business leaders and parents.

He is most passionate about ensuring equity for all students, especially when it comes to access to career and technical education programs. Through his All Means All campaign, he touts the opportunities such programs provide students from all walks of life. This has led to bills in both the New York State Assembly (A7846) and Senate (S6599).

Dr. Dillon continues to generate positive and productive ideas that advance education on Long Island, including: the annual orientation for new superintendents; New York State’s first career and technical education job fair; a series of dialogues for designed specifically for educational leaders; and a school budget workshop for new state legislators.

When asked how he saw the agency advancing with the times, Dr. Dillon said, "Nassau BOCES will continue to be at the forefront of educational excellence in New York State."
