2023 George Farber Outstanding Student Award Honoree
Melanye Cruz-Guzman
Adult Education Program | Baldwin
Melanye has always wanted a career in the dental field. Though she is currently attending college, she deliberately rearranged her schedule so that she can study dental assisting. She works hard to learn all the material, reads ahead in the textbook, reviews handouts in-depth and asks questions about anything that is unclear to her. As a result, her test scores are consistently excellent.
Melanye is a leader in class. She assisted with the setup of Google Classroom, where she consistently posts class notes, even translating them into Spanish for her classmates who are not as comfortable with English. Her notes are exceptionally helpful, as Melanye accurately and beautifully illustrates dental anatomy, periodontal structures, and dental instruments and devices, and shares these notes with her classmates. She arrives early and stays after class to help put away the dental demonstration models and arrange desks if needed.
“Melanye gives her all to everything she does,” said her dental assisting instructor. “She is clearly dedicated to becoming a great dental assistant and is sure to be promoted as she continues to learn new skills on the job. Her fellow students and I are fortunate to have her in class.”
