Student
Nassau BOCES Adult Education

Luis Angel Trejo-Juarez is a model student who contributes as much to the adult education experience as he takes from it. His very presence strengthens the program. His determination and perseverance improves the quality of instruction for his classes and increases the level of engagement among his fellow students. He inspires everyone around him, whether by sharing his personal and professional experiences, or by modeling his work ethic. He assists his instructors by motivating his peers and helping them to identify their true potential, and works to motivate his fellow students, helping them to understand the importance of each learning activity.

Mr. Trejo-Juarez is a small business owner-operator who chose adult career and technical education as a means to strategically reduce his business expenses. Instead of outsourcing equipment and facility repairs to costly technicians, he decided to learn the necessary skills to conduct the repairs himself.

After an extremely positive experience in the Nassau BOCES English as a Second Language program, Mr. Trejo-Juarez chose to continue his education with comprehensive training to become a Plumbing Technician. From there, he went on to complete the yearlong Automotive Institute, earning the highest grade in his class. He is currently enrolled in the Welding program and is on track to complete the course this spring.

“Luis Angel Trejo-Juarez is a model for collaboration and teamwork,” wrote his award nominator. “He is a continuous learner who takes pride in his academic progress. He is always willing to share his journey with his classmates, who feed off his work ethic, positive energy and self-improvement mindset. He is an ideal representation of our adult education program.”
