Dance Teacher
Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts

Laura Bagdziunas, who is an alumna of Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts, has carefully built a rapport of mutual trust with each of her students by making herself available whenever they need her, whether in reviewing their resumes or preparing for an audition. Her classroom is a safe space where burgeoning dancers are comfortable taking risks and pushing themselves to try new things, while at the same time, she holds them to incredibly high standards, encouraging them to push themselves beyond the boundaries of their creative potential in order to perfect their craft.

Ms. Bagdziunas gives her students an inside view of industry expectations, and helps prepare them for entry into the nation’s most competitive dance programs. For the past six years, her students have earned spots in the Long Island Arts Alliance’s prestigious Scholar Artist competition. Graduates of her dance program have enrolled at elite institutions across the country, such as Julliard, Point Park, Pace University and Boston Conservartory.

Ms. Bagdziunas spearheaded the return of the LIHSA Scholarship Gala, assembling an impressive roster of faculty and alumni who donated their time for a professional performance to raise funds for LIHSA graduates. As a result, the gala raised more than $8,000 in scholarship funds, which were awarded to members of the Class of 2023. She conceived, co-created, co-directed and produced Big Shot: A Tribute to Billy Joel, in celebration of LIHSA’s 50th Anniversary and the Piano Man’s philanthropic efforts to support the school.
